Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is a therapeutic modality that takes intuitive ways that we think to ourselves (for example, "part of me knows I need to work harder; but another part of me just wants to relax!")  to get to know ourselves better, to understand our behaviour and thought patterns, and to heal from past wounds.

 

IFS is non-pathologizing (we can work on your symptoms and what's not going well without diagnosing it as a specific mental health disorder) and it is self-pacing.  That means that your own system makes connections and changes when it's ready and slows work down when it's moving too fast.  

 

IFS has been adopted by many psychologists, medical doctors, counsellors, social workers and family counsellors as their approach of choice because of how effective it is in healing, helping clients move toward their life goals, and helping clients find more ease functioning and moving through the world.  It is also chosen because of its deep respect for client autonomy, and affection and understanding for even our "unwanted" thoughts and behaviours. 

 

MY TRAINING AND EXPERTISE IN IFS. I am highly trained in Internal Family Systems and am sought-after as staff for trainings for other counsellors and and as a consultant for other therapists who are learning the model.  I have completed a rigorous six-month training in Internal Family Systems, followed by an equally rigorous training in Internal Family Systems for Couples Therapists (IFIO).  I have done and assisted on advanced trainings that focus the IFS lens on addictions, sexuality, and couples work.
